Disclaimer: Neither I nor Wololo can be held responsible for banned accounts/consoles. I personally haven’t tested this plugin simply because I don’t have much to test it with since my Vita is properly activated and I don’t have any digital games on my PSN account.

Update: Beta 5 has been released and now the store works fine again!

With every firmware that the community hacks, Sony usually finds a way to mess up PSN functionality for users running the hack to entice them to update their device. While Sony’s attempts at not allowing PSN to work properly on HENkaku-enabled Vitas functioned until a few days ago, with CelesteBlue’s release of ReNpDrm, PSN is now fully accessible on HENkaku-enabled PSVitas again!

What is ReStore and what got updated in Beta 5?

ReNpDrm (what you’ve been hearing about) is one part of the solution as it’s the plugin that constantly refreshes the system’s activation so that content (such as games and apps) that requires an activated console can work just fine!

Then, there’s ReStore, a name bound to confuse people and search engines alike, which is the plugin that actually allows PSN to work properly. This means that it allows you to browse, purchase, download and install digital games and applications without any problems. It’s also said to let you play games online but I can’t find sufficient information supporting that.

Thanks to ReNpDrm/ReStore, PSN access is a thing again although the release was a little bumpy sadly.

After rummaging through some tweets on CelesteBlue’s twitter account, I was able to come up with the following changelog (it includes updates from both Beta 3,Beta 4/4.2 and Beta 5):

  • RIF folder creation was fixed (Beta 3)
  • 0KB act.dat checking was fixed (Beta 3)
  • Less logging so the plugin’s performance should be better (Beta 4)
  • The logs are shorter but they have better information – less junk probably. They’re found in ur0:/data (Beta 4)
  • A bug that caused Beta 4 to crash the PlayStation Store has been fixed (Beta 5)

CelesteBlue also advises users who can’t activate with ReNpDrm/ReStore to deactivate all devices from Sony’s website and then try again. Reddit users have reported that both plugins work fine even if your device is properly activated but I’d still back up my activation files!

Conclusion

To get this plugin, you can simply follow the link below and check out the instructions from there. If you have any issues, report them to CelesteBlue on Twitter.

On a side note, CelesteBlue should really create proper changelogs and keep a download link for older versions of his plugins to reduce confusion!

N.B: If the version of ReNpDrm/ReStore you have on your device is currently working, don’t update just yet! If you have issues or you’re about to get it, then go ahead. That being said, Beta 5 should work much better and CelesteBlue needs some testers so you might as well try it while backing up your v2/v3 plugins.
