As the PSVita enjoyed much more success in Japan than in Europe/North America, it’s only natural that some games stay there for good. This means that some games don’t have an English version so Westerners can’t enjoy them. However, thanks to various modders and taiHEN, we can enjoy Japan-only games like Trails in the Sky SC in English!
You can finally enjoy this game in English thanks to ‘the modder’ and his team!
What is Trails in the Sky SC Evolution?
Trails in the Sky SC is an RPG game that’s the successor to “The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky”, a game that’s available in English on the PSP (but only in Japanese on the Vita..). As this game is a direct sequel, the modder who made the patch possible, ‘the database’ (and his team) of GBATemp forums, strongly recommends you play the first game in the series before attempting to play this one.
Trails in the Sky SC was originally released in Japanese in the year 2006 for Windows PCs but the English version, by Xseed Games, was only released in late 2015. While the Vita got its port in late 2015, after the translation was released, it still didn’t get English text so players from Europe/NA couldn’t enjoy it! That all changed with modding work of ‘the database’ and his team who decided to patch over XSeed’s PC translation to the PSVita version of the game.
What do I need to use this patch? Where do I get it from?
To be able to play Trails in the Sky SC Evolution in English, you need the following:
- A taiHEN/HENkaku-enabled PSVita/PSTV.
- A copy of the Japanese version of the game (PCSG00489). – You need to dump it and reinstall it via MaiDump. It must be updated to patch v1.02
- Some time on your end as this patch requires some setting up. – You need to patch both eboot.bin and data.psarc
It’s also important to keep in mind that these issues exist:
- Sometimes text will overflow out of the box but it’ll still be readable
- The game’s DLC isn’t fully supported so you’ll have to use the workaround mentioned in the release thread to get items from the DLC.
The ‘Trails in the Sky’ series is said to be one of the best RPG series out there!
